About the Author

James Dean’s art has sold in more than ninety galleries and shops across the United States. He has devoted his paintings to Pete the Cat for fifteen years and has turned his natural love for cats into his life’s work. James published his first adult book, The Misadventures of Pete the Cat, a history of his artwork, in 2006. He illustrated his first self-published children’s book, Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes, in 2008, and the follow-up book, Pete the Cat: Rocking in My School Shoes, in 2011. Absolutely in love with these books!! Great quality, great illustrations, great price point!

Pete is as sassy and cute as ever in this Halloween story. My 6-year old grandson loves Pete, and can't get enough of reading as a result of Pete's antics and comments. The illustrations are very engaging and amusing, really appealing to a first grade boy. I also am impressed with the level of vocabulary they use in the non-beginning reader books. Lots of good words to add to his speaking vocabulary as well as to his sight vocabulary. The illustrations really support the text and the story very well. The beginning reading books are also well done, and supportive of an emerging reader. And because they are in paperback, it is quite affordable to buy several titles.

The flaps on this book are flimsy and awkward. They will be easily ripped. In addition, the story is just okay. The pictures are great, however. I wish that the authors would go back to the musical format of the original books. Most of the ones, including this one, that don't feauture the collaboration with Eric Litwin are just not of the same caliber of creativity or engagement.

Bought this for our first grader. She had to do a book report and decorate a pumpkin to go with it. She loved this book, make an adorable black cat pumpkin, and got a great grade! This series is awesome. My 12 year old read them when he was little and my youngest ones love them too! I will save them all to pass down to the baby.

My son and I are just sort of meh on this one. We like MANY Pete the Cat books but this one just didn't capture his attention that much. He's 4 and was not that into the flaps. I do appreciate that common Halloween images were used to show they are not scary and can be explained but overall not our favorite Pete.

I sent this book to my grandsons, 2 & 5, and they enjoyed it. I started sending them Pete the Cat books a while back and they've all been a success.I don't live far from them, but I have Prime, so I don't pay shipping and they love getting packages in the mail from Nana.

How can one not love Pete the Cat. This is not a sing songy book like "I Love My White Shoes" or "4 Groovy Buttons" but it is a cute little story that has little flaps inside that reveal other characters behind the little flaps. Very cute book.

This book combines two of my son's favorite things: Pete the Cat and flap books. What's great about this one is that the flaps are the doors of the houses that Pete trick-or-treats at. How fun!
