Just adding stars. This book was a terrific read. The pacing was outstanding especially. The moments of really awful things happening and action scenes were beautifully mixed with quiet moments of character building. Also, the plot and especially a character's reveal that changes the way you've thought about a solid third of the book was simply superbly executed. There were a few (like 3 instances probably/1-2 paragraphs) of some gore descriptions that I just skipped over but this certainly didn't detract from my experience.Very clever, very enjoyable. Highly recommend.Edit**I actually bought this book twice--the first time as a Kindle edition, and after reading it and having it stuck in my head for several days--bought it again as a real physical book which I haven't done in years.
What a wonderful riveting story. I was so completely engrossed in the story I forgot to feed the dogs (they reminded me). It was a fast moving energetic read. It was a little difficult dealing with the animal hunting, but considering the story it was expected. It's not like they have grocery stores in a post-apocalyptic world. I was so immersed that I forgot I was reading. The imagery was so vivid I could almost smell the scenes. Well written and well delivered. Looking forward to the next book.
This was my first novel by this author and it won't be my last! The beginning dragged for just a little, but once the actions gets going, its awesome! This novel kept me on the edge of my seat because there was a lot of action, and the way the characters came together was superb. Animal violence in this novel may deter some, but I just had to envision a postapocalytic world and it made enough sense. And, not only was there action, but there's a lot of depth and emotional evolvement for both characters. So much so that the conclusion of the novel had me in tears, and I can't remember the last time I cried at a book! Highly recommend this one.
This was a thoroughly enjoyable read. So much so that I read the entire book over the course of one day. I am hard pressed to think of a book that has such well-developed main characters. The action scenes had me anxiety-ridden, and I wont deny shedding some tears at the especially emotional scenes. Honestly, this is one of the best books I've had the pleasure of reading, and I have read a lot in both the post-apocalyptic and lesbian romance genres. This is the first time I've read a book that was both, though... And I loved it. I will definitely be buying more from this author.
*no spoilers* For once a smart and riveting book that has a lesbian as a central character. The characters are strong, well written subjects. The book story comes first which allowed the author to let the relationship between the main characters flesh out naturally. It was a great, edge-of-your-seat read. Wonderful characters and a great setting. My only complaint is there isn't a sequel for me to blaze through. I really hope the author already has one in the works!
This is one of the best books I’ve read in the last year. Exciting, scary, cannot tell where it was going next! Characters were well developed; the dystopia that was New York was well described. Held my interest until the end! More! More!
I loved the story, the characters, and the writing. It was easy to empathize with the main character Lynn’s, struggles, both physical and emotional as she makes her way in a dystopian New York City area. There’s plenty of tension as she must navigate threats from a harsh environment while at the same time struggle with figuring out how to negotiate forming a relationship with another human for the first time. A marvelous action/adventure story. May Dawney, you have a new fan.
I couldn’t put this book down. I was transmitted to the boom’s time and place the instant I started reading. If you want a kick butt lesbian romance this is your book. You don’t have to like Syfy to enjoy it.
